A NEW BABY - how
wonderful! You will have so much fun sewing for that
special baby. All it takes is a good pattern, a little
fabric, a little time and love. It is fun to show off
a baby with adorable outfits made by you. You can dress
your baby any way you choose. It will not always be this
way because in just a few years, they will have their
own ideas as to what they wish to wear.
You can use a great variety
of fabrics, appliqués,
laces and other trims. It used to be that all little
girls were dressed in pink and the boys in blue. This
is no longer so. All types of fabrics and colors are
now used for both boy and girl babies. Just remember
to choose soft materials as babies have very soft, sensitive
skin.
Our goal for writing this book is to provide you with
all the patterns you need for the baby's first year with
up-to-date and complete instructions for sewing these
garments. We have included fabric information, yardage
requirements, cutting instructions and the correct stitches
to use for the different fabrics.
The book has eight sections. The first
section has general sewing information. Section two contains
cutting and sewing instructions for baby's nursery items. The
last section has thirty-five appliqués which can be
used on all the garments and nursery items. The remaining sections
have complete cutting and sewing instructions for at least
thirty garments plus many variations.
KWIK SEW's Sewing for Baby book cover
A master pattern is included for at least 30 designs, all in sizes newborn
to 18 months. There are many variations of T-shirts, sleepers, kimonos, rompers,
jogging suits, sweatshirts, sweaters, pants, shorts, overalls, dresses, panties,
bibs and 35 fun appliques. You can create a beautiful nursery to welcome baby
home. Instructions are included for bumper pads, comforters, crib sheets, receiving
blankets, bath towels with hoods and wall hangings.
This book has easy-to-follow sewing
instructions with clear illustrations, time saving techniques
and the most up-to-date sewing methods. All styles and creative
ideas are shown throughout the book in full colour photographs.
Some of the pattern pieces are interchangeable
so you can make many variations of garments, using the same
pattern pieces. In the book it also explains how you can make
minor changes in the design to obtain different effects.
The multi-sized master pattern is printed
on durable white paper with colour coded lines for each size.
The patterns are printed on both sides of the paper so we could
include as many sizes and designs as possible. Trace the patterns
using tracing paper or tracing cloth made of transparent pressed
fibers.
All of the master pattern pieces include
1/4” (6 mm) seam allowances. This is the best seam allowance
to use when sewing baby clothes. You can use a regular sewing
machine or a serger/overlock machine.
Each master pattern includes four sizes:
Small to Extra Large. Choose the pattern size by comparing
the baby’s height and weight to the measurement chart.
